Remembering.
Mar. 13th, 2007 03:15 pmNikita died this day one year ago. I found out a couple weeks ago what she died from while browsing The Dog Bible; I know it's what she died from.
Nikita died from bloat. Its 'fancy' name is gastric torsion or gastric dilatation volvulus. The stomach fills with fluid and gas, then twists. Symptoms include gagging or making unsuccessful attempts to vomit (producing only excess saliva); a dull, vacant, or pained expression; a distended stomach; and the inability to stand.
Nikita had all of those symptoms. I wish we could have done something for her... so she wouldn't have had to die the way she did. Euthanasia would have been so much better.
I still miss her. I really do. I grew up with her. She was with us from the time I began Kindergarten to when I was almost a high school graduate.
I have a drawing of her (plus Midnight, Josie, Becky, and Cisco) that I need to finish as a memorial.
Not long ago, I drove Dad to the school so we could pick Cammy up; Dad had to pick up a prescription from Longs afterwards. I got to say hi to Katie, Erin, and Elric, so that was awesome.
Earlier this morning, Dad and I made a delicious juice out of mandarins and grapes (both red and green). It's SO freaking good. I've been downing it like mad.
