Oh, mein Gott.
Mar. 31st, 2005 12:26 pmToday is Cammy's fifteenth birthday! w00t! We'll be headed for the Royal Dragon II later tonight for dinner. All I've had for breakfast is two glasses of milk. Heh.... Fat-free milk. Anyway.
I am a geek. I am such a geek. An elitist geek, even - for certain films, that is. At least, I feel that way. I watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame again last night. I have no clue how many times I watched this film as a third-grader (long story short: MANY times), but damn, I still love it.
Yes, I am a geek. For God's sake, I just joined a community site - disneymania.ws - in order to get at the pictures. PICTURES, damn it. Posters. Concept art. Screenshots. This site is chok-full of the stuff from every single damn Disney movie released - including the Pixars, though they are not 'true' Disney films; they're Pixar films. ^__^ *coughcoughTheIncrediblescough* <3<3<3
Sigh. I want to buy The Hunchback of Notre Dame on DVD. I've loved it for so long. Hell, even the soundtrack I'd love to have! The music is so stirring; the Latin chants are hauntingly beautiful. This site also shows the theatrical release posters. There is one in particular that I would hang proudly on my walls. NEEEEEEED. Oh! - and The Art of the Hunchback of Notre Dame! I'd love that. God, I wish I could make cell animation-style drawings.
I love concept art. It's always interesting (and oftentimes amusing) to see how characters evolve from one stage to another. Squee.
*grin* All this journal's good for is my mindless fascination with movies and music. I'm so boring. ^__^
AUGH, I NEED TO MAKE FAN ARTS!!1one. I remember drawing Esmerelda and Phoebus as anthro dogs when I was a wee lass, back when I wasn't even familiar with the term 'anthro'. Heh, this movie got me drawing gypsy dogs like you wouldn't believe. Gypsy dogs up the yin-yang! But I just looove it sooo much. I want to make some dramatic-stark-foreboding type fan art for it.... Because it is unusually dark for a Disney film. It could have been (some say 'should' have been) rated PG. Hell, I think even PG-13 would have been fitting. But its mature elements are what make Disney's take on the novel so intriguing.
Okay. Frollo. Loathesome bastard. Has the hots for Esmerelda. DEAR GOD! The artists express the character's expressions so well - from lust to fear - and the actors bring them to brilliant life. Tony Jay does have an awesome voice.... Speaking of voices, I only learned yesterday that Tom Hulce (Quasimodo), Tony Jay (Frollo), and Paul Kandal (Clopin), among a few others, not only voice their characters but sing them as well! I thought HOT DAMN! That's talent!
Oh, right, the darkness.... Take the song "Hellfire" as an example. It's a song dedicated entirely to Frollo's repressed sexual desire for Esmerelda. 0___o Eeeesh. Absolutely brilliant song. I printed the lyrics last night before watching it a second time. No wonder religious groups found the film so unsettling, mua ha ha.
Mweeeeeee, I'm off to drool at the artness.
