...and has not been working properly since around Thursday. Aunt Pam and Uncle Larry's DSL is getting TONS of server timeouts and whatnot. It's very difficult to surf, check e-mail (which is important, especially now that I've found e-mails from my peers that I wasn't able to reply to), do anything Internet-related at the house.

BUT! - that's where the joy of Portland's free Wi-Fi comes in. My class today doesn't begin until 12:45, so I'm in the library with my laptop on AC power. I have an appointment with my adviser, Amber, at 11:40; registration for next term's classes begins today.

Josh, on Thursday, suggested Color Theory and a traditional animation class, which sounds great to me.

To give a [ HUGE ] summary of last week now (as I couldn't do so at home):

MONDAY, August 13: watched The Triplets of Belleville in Language of Animation & Film after taking a quiz. I love that movie - SO bizarre.

TUESDAY, August 14: I got my first essay in Design Inquiry back from Colleen. I was expecting a B at the highest.

What did I get?

AN A.

I GOT A FREAKING A ON AN ESSAY.

Colleen wrote that my descriptions were wonderful, among other things. GAH, I GOT AN A! That... never happened in high school. I loathed high school essays.

I've found that I actually kind of enjoy essays on art.

WEDNESDAY, August 15: Mom's birthday, but an unhappy one. She's still down at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Grandma Ruthie is just... hanging on to life. She can no longer swallow her pain pills; they have to be inserted rectally. Sigh.... I just hope her passing isn't painful, whenever it comes. It's been very hard on Mom, Grandma Jo, Grandpa Jeff, and Lew.

This day's edition of Digital Principles was much more enthusiastic than the last class. I actually got some work done for my advertisement project: Fu's Chews Dog Treats. XD I drew a HUGE Fu Dog (the file began as 2,000 x 3,000 pixels at 300 dpi) and began coloring it with one of AIPD's gorgeous large Wacom tablets (but my little Paranoid tablet will always be my favorite! *squees at Brandon and Kimmi*). These large tablets and the school's large monitors just worked more nicely for Photoshop art. I had to save the file twice on my flash drive because it was so large: 78.1 MEGABYTES. Damn!

...And when I got home, I learned that the file wasn't compatible with Photoshop Elements 3.0. LOSE. I'm going to have to push getting that assignment done... and I'm going to have to finish it at school.

I got to drive home on Wednesday, too. Terrible, in a way, because I end up doing nothing productive with the spare time I have at home. Argh!

THURSDAY, August 16: my Drawing class had a field trip to the Portland Art Museum to see the Rembrandt exhibit. I did a lot of walking that day before going into the museum. Yay walking!

FRIDAY, August 17: my latest project for Principles of Visual Communication was met with much praise. Whee! Last week's project - an assignment using texture to create a value scale - was also returned to me. I got a C+ on it. Renata wrote: "Would have been A if turned in on time." INCENTIVE!

I'd had the scatterbrained impression that we had two weeks to work on that project.... Ha.

It turned out well, though. It's a self-portrait and features Draco (he's doing well up here, by the way).

While at Powell's, I kept flipping through The Art of the Hunchback of Notre Dame (the Disney version, of course). GOD it's so beautiful. I caved and bought it. The retail is $50, but Powell's was selling it for $30. Not too bad a price, anyway. Grandma Ruthie sent a lot of money to my account and Cammy's account last week, but after The Art of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, it's SCHOOL and GAS. Art supplies count for school - just not in excess.

I also tried looking for Hugo's actual novel, but all that Powell's carries of his is several copies of Les Miserables. D: I guess I'll have to read it someday... when I can stand reading over one thousand pages of text.

...I REALLY want to read The Hunchback of Notre Dame again. It's the most depressing work of fiction I've ever read, but... so fantastic.

SATURDAY, August 18: lazy day. Added some more to Aban-Buil Anathema and to the main Brainsick text. Chapter Nine (why the hell do I write so many excerpts from chapters so far into the future?) already has about a page.

Aunt Pam, Uncle Larry, Jessi, Maddie, and Michael went to a wedding for Mitch's (Jessi's boyfriend) brother. I stayed home and watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame for the billionth time. Hands down, it's my favorite Disney movie. I adore the character designs, the lighting, the music.... Everything.

What's with all these freaking ellipses?

SUNDAY, August 19: also added more to Aban-Buil Anathema. Aunt Debbie and Uncle Gary came up in their enormous motor home and will be visiting us for around three days. SO much laughter last night, hanging out with those two! Full house dinners are always fun.

Okay, time to get off of this thing and head to Powell's for a while. After that, it's my appointment, class, and then home.
