Wednesday: Grace and I got out of Anatomy & Movement an hour early again. Heading down the elevator, I remembered I had to pick up my peers' assignments for Creative Writing; I ran into Aurora and ended up hanging out with her for an extra hour. We traveled through Powell's and geeked out over each other's characters. Grand fun!

Thursday: As usual, Thursday was wonderfully fun. Hung out with Jacob and David during lunch; Aurora and Grace joined us later, and the five of us headed to class a bit early to secure our seats. Grace brought bags of Twix and Kit-Kats to share with the class; our table group paid the most attention to the candy. Za, however, did snag some candy for herself.

Aurora and I shared goofy drawings of our characters with each other throughout Character & Object Design. She's SUCH a huge fangirl over Rant and Finch, it's cute (in turn, I'm very fond of her demon, Danny). She showed me her sketch of Finch she'd done after reading the chapters; it's very close to how Finch actually looks (I'd brought my current sketchbook to compare with her sketches). Laryssa and I traded evil glances back and forth several times. It's pretty much our greeting now. *grin*

I must draw Finch with Groucho Marx glasses....

For dinner, Aurora, Grace, Hannah and I went to The Roxy. It's a great little joint, eccentric and fun. There's a framed photo of Tim Curry as Dr. Frank N. Furter hanging on the wall (in addition to other rather risque - but amusing - photos). The menu amused me with its SORRY, WE DO NOT SERVE ALCOHOL OR MILKSHAKES. I got the Pita and Hummus with a glass of milk (whole milk, what a treat!), and the four of us talked about animation, our characters, and traded phone numbers.

While we were situated with our meals (and an appetizer of chili cheese fries), Hannah spotted a man outside the restaurant wearing a banana suit. He was talking with a guy who could have been a transvestite. Aurora had mentioned that transvestites like to hang at The Roxy later at night. Schweet.

Aurora asked us if we had plans for Halloween; she invited us over for an animation-watching party and mentioned Gargoyles (one of my favorite cartoons when I was younger). At home, I tinkered with my Hades Laboratories model a bit and made a jerky playblast (.avi file of my camera move).

Friday: Hung out with Melissa, Grace, and Jacob during lunch. Melissa came to school as a husky: painted face, dog collar, and tail. Ryan Stark, a hot-shot animation student, sneered at her tail on his way into the smoker's area of the Student Commons; he might have been one of the people who wrote "FUR FAG" over Melissa's lion character on the drawing wall (Melissa retorted with "Closet Fur", which I though was brilliant). Ryan can be identified by his "duck butt" hairdo and a handful of tag-along cronies. I don't think Melissa noticed, but I noticed Ryan's rudeness and probably glared at him slightly. Regardless, lunch with me friends always proves a great break before class. Jacob wished it was a longer break, and I agreed.

In Phil's class, we went over our camera moves. Phil gave me a great critique so that I can fix my camera move to include two shots: a still at the beginning, and then a push-in toward the front door. Even though I'd made the playblast the night before (some bad habits die hard), I felt comfortable and happy with the fact that I'd turned it in. I hadn't done that last term because I'd let myself fall so far behind.

During a fifteen-minute break, I headed back up to the Student Commons; Grace spotted me and popped out the door, exclaiming, "They have cookies and candy!" Candy corn, frosted cookies, and even lots of veggies were available on the tables in the Commons. Hannah and Laryssa had great costumes of some anime characters; I was not familiar with them, but for the sake of wearing costumes, they were great. Gina showed up briefly and we all just munched out and talked for a bit. I pocketed a few handfuls of candy corn and wrapped a napkin around one of the cookies before going back to class.

I think I'm finally beginning to understand the concept of texturing in Maya - more advanced texturing than what we learned in 3D Modeling & Animation I, anyway.

Aurora called shortly after I got out; I met her and Grace in the lobby. Aurora dressed up as Rant, which was absolutely kickass. I said hi to Elizabeth outside the main entrance; she thought my Peanuts t-shirt was really cute (it's the shirt that Elsa had given me). Hannah couldn't come with us, so Aurora, Grace and I headed off for Aurora's apartment.

Our shindig started off with watching animations on YouTube. Grace and I met Aurora's roommate, Robin, whom she's known since they were very young. MJ showed up later on and we all enjoyed some Halloween episodes of Gargoyles and The Batman (Ragdoll, as Aurora pointed out, really DOES look like a visual cross between Rant and Finch). Aurora and I opted for animated sequences from Pink Floyd The Wall, and Grace showed some animations from French students which Za had shown in one of her classes. Aurora showed the fight sequence between Gluttony and Wrath from the Fullmetal Alchemist movie, which I did find pretty damn impressive. It shows weight well. Also: blood!

We all shared sketchbooks and photos of our friends. Aurora had me try on the kickass leather coat she'd bought for her Rant costume and it fit me well. I want to clone it. Seriously. I'm even going to alter Rant's coat slightly to resemble Aurora's coat more, because it's such a fitting design. Aurora was sad that she'd forgotten to buy some sparkling apple cider, but she did buy a quart of whole milk for me to drink. XD

Long story short (even if this post is not short), this was the best Halloween I'd had since 2003, when I got to go trick-or-treating with Karena, Dannie, Monique and company. Giusti's Halloween party had been pretty fun, too, but Halloween 2008 took the cake.

Grace and I decided to head off a bit after 11:00. Aurora walked us to the MAX station; on the MAX, a few people were in costume. One guy was dressed as The Joker and had his photo taken by some giggling girls further back in the train. The ride after Grace left was fine. It honestly felt cool being in Portland so late at night, and the drive home was stress-free. I'd called Uncle Larry twice to let him know when I thought I'd be home - I got home around 12:20. I stayed up listening to music, drew Aurora's character Danny, and went to bed at 3:58.

I'm going to continue practicing more exaggerated characters now.
