David Bowie on Letterman, 1995: "The Hearts Filthy Lesson"

I'm on a David Bowie kick right now. Still fantarding over Outside. That album does not grow old.

I was sad to learn that the official music video for "The Hearts Filthy Lesson" (yes, it is written without an apostrophe) has been removed from YouTube. I'd watched it once; perhaps I can find it on another site.

However, I did discover a wonderful backup. Bowie's hypnotizing in this performance.

For anyone unfamiliar with this album, it's based around the concept that murder has become an underground art form.

I adore Outside. I've also got Earthling, which I really like. Started off with a Best Of CD, and I do like his earlier works, but the grittier, conceptual Bowie speaks to me more as an artist and writer. Inspiring stuff! The short story-bit that goes with the album is interesting, too; I'd love to make a series of illustrations for it at some point.

I'll have to get Reality at some point. I hadn't realized the album artwork featured that super-cartoony Bowie; I saw Bowie's head in that style on a LJ community and assumed it was somebody's Mii interpretation of him. :P
