I half expect to find myself
In full control of nothing else
Lost hope but learnt to hope less
Nothing comes to mind
I want higher
Still nothing comes to mind

Give me a low five
'Cause I can't help myself
I'm a low five downsize no one else
Do you love yourself?

Mmmmm, the Sneaker Pimps' "Low Five" - GORGEOUS song.

They're English, by the way - hence learnt. :D

Saturday was fun. Met Michael in Oregon City and rode with him to TFAW via 99. Sadly, the 50% off discount for Watchmen was only for a certain time, so... I just paid full retail for it. But you know what? - twenty bucks isn't bad for a trade paperback as thick as the collected Watchmen is. Plus, the art reproduction is fantastic, and printed on high quality paper. I'm satisfied with paying full price. It's just that I could have bought it at Powell's, ha.

Damn, Cammy ended up beating me in price after all. He had to wait for his copy to come by mail, though. =P

After TFAW, Michael took us to lunch at Oh! Teriyaki in Oregon City. I had some sweet and sour chicken with rice and veggies. EXCELLENT food.

I battled severe sniffling and mild coughing over the weekend, but thanks to drinking huge amounts of herbal tea, taking vitamin C tablets and Airborne, and eating lots of leftover soup with tons of black pepper added (pepper helps my nose a lot), I am feeling normal again. Also, not drinking milk for a few days has helped. I have had the little DanActive probiotic dairy drinks which Aunt Pam brought home; they have milk, but they're in small bottles.

Today was a good day. I got six hours of sleep, but had fallen asleep quickly last night and felt ready for the day this morning. Aurora had saved a seat for me in class and we told one another about our weekends (I shared my tire blowout story). Once the class had assembled into our designated writing groups, Julia addressed us personally, explaining that she might move one of us to another group. See, the first day it was... difficult to focus, because group writing with students you're not entirely familiar with is just not a very good ice breaker. Aurora and I were just excited to have a class together. To cut it short, my group discussed it during our critiques and plan to stay together. Aurora had been frustrated with the prospect of one of us splitting from the group.

I got some good crits and suggestions for my oddball little look into The Paradigm Chimera. Didi shared that she had a hard time understanding a lot of the words, but she also stated that her first language is not English, so I took that to heart. Josh told me that the beginning reads like an essay (which I actually thought myself as I was writing it, ha), making it difficult for a reader to really get into the story, which I understand and appreciate. My group agreed that dialogue would help a lot.

Aurora was the only member who understood practically everything in my story. She had asked me about what exactly the "everyday world" was as far as my story goes on Thursday, and I explained that it's more of a sci-fi everyday than a regular everyday... everyday. Yeah. But she understood. Our stories ended up being kind of similar; we both wrote about big monstrous beasts. <3

Julia stated that she likes my "narrative voice here" and that she'd like to get to "know this narrator better. It would be nice and more interesting is all the chimeras weren't scary monsters but instead more for [she must have meant 'more'] complex beings." (With more time to write, I would have included Hydramotis. I guess he's slightly scary-looking, but he is passive, a thinker and observer.)

Julia gave me an A. Woo hoo!

Doesn't mean I won't listen to my peers' suggestions.... It's just that crits like "Awkwardly writen" (yes, with one T) with no further explanation aren't that helpful. The discussion did clear up a lot of things. My group and I all agreed that if we'd had more time to write our stories, they'd have been better.

Well, now I can turn an A into a stronger A. *grin*

We have more time for the second assignment as Monday is an institute day - no school. Four-day weekend, hell yes!

Aurora got me to follow her to Sur la Table (TAHB) after class as she looked for pastry bags, and outside we talked about our stories more and the happenings in the class. She's going to bring me a chocolate bat sometime this week, I think - squee!

Got home, napped for TWO HOURS (eesh!), and eventually had a wonderful grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough wheat bread with cheddar and pepperjack cheese, lots of tomatoes (home-grown!), and some lettuce. Deeeelicious!

I'm going to work on my Character & Object Design character interviews for a while. They'll take up most of my time tomorrow, I imagine. I'll also get started on my next Creative Writing assignment. Aaaand get some good references for my Maya project to show to Phil on Friday.

Love to you all!

OH, before I forget the first part of the journal title....

This past weekend, the water was shut off as Aunt Pam, Uncle Larry, and their friend Ed repaired the plumbing throughout the house. It's kind of maddening not being able to flush the toilet after you've used it....
